Waste Reduction
Collaborative Project
For URBANAUTA, creating products isn’t just about designing functional, aesthetic, and on-trend pieces. We plan, design, and produce with a focus on how and where our products are made, who is involved in their development, and what impact they have on people and the environment. That’s why we view each product as the result of a series of conscious decisions that are part of our approach to the industry.
LOCAL MANUFACTURING
We work with local suppliers and workshops because we believe in a more responsible and transparent way of producing. Having the people involved in each phase nearby not only reduces the impact of transportation, but also allows us to monitor production and ensure good working conditions. Over time, we have built a direct, trusting, and collaborative relationship with each of our workshops and suppliers.
HIGH-QUALITY MATERIALS
We choose high-quality, durable materials to craft all of our products. We believe that durability is also a form of sustainability: cutting costs on materials also reduces the products’ lifespan and the quality of their finishes. We design with the goal of creating functional, durable pieces that are built to withstand everyday use for many years.
CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Reducing our environmental impact is an integral part of our approach to design. We work to minimize waste, repair products, and find new ways to reuse materials and extend the useful life of each item. At our neighborhood workshop in Barcelona, we repair all our products with no time limit, promoting a more conscious and responsible model of consumption.
We also collaborate with other brands and projects on the management of pre-consumer textile waste, and we develop our designs by incorporating sustainability into the creative process from the very beginning.
COLLABORATION ON SOCIAL INCLUSION PROJECTS
We work with workshops and organizations that promote reentry into the workforce and social inclusion, such as the Fundació Ared. By producing simple clothing items, we support projects that offer new opportunities to people at risk of social exclusion.
For us, collaborating with these initiatives means not only helping to raise their profile, but also becoming part of a network of projects and companies working to build a more just, inclusive, and humane society.
