UR3

Local design and textile utilization

The UR3 is the result of a collaboration between Urbanauta and Lindenbaum, a designer from Barcelona’s Gràcia neighborhood. The project stems from a specific challenge: creating a new bag by utilizing the textile offcuts generated during the cutting process of our best-selling backpack, the U1.

In this way, the UR3 emerges as a proposal that seeks to give a second life to a material already part of the manufacturing process. Rather than viewing this leftover fabric as waste, the project proposes a new way of using it to create a distinctive, functional piece with a personality of its own.

The goal is to reduce textile waste while simultaneously creating new opportunities for collaboration with local designers and creatives. Thus, UR3 represents an approach to design rooted in proximity, leveraging existing resources and working collaboratively with local professionals.

An original and functional bag

The result is an original, functional, rectangular bag featuring a playful design and ergonomics tailored for comfortable shoulder carry. Its shape leaves room for the body and arm, allowing the bag to adapt naturally to movement and remain comfortable even during prolonged use.

The ergonomics of the UR3 are designed to keep the bag close to the body while it is being carried, facilitating movement during everyday use. Its design thus combines a distinctive aesthetic with a practical approach to the bag’s construction.

Technical fabric and organization

The UR3 is crafted from the same technical fabric as the U1—a lightweight, durable, and water-repellent material. Using this fabric allows the new piece to retain some of the original material’s qualities while making use of the offcuts generated during the backpack’s production.

The bag features two easily accessible outer pockets with snap-button closures, as well as two hidden pockets designed to keep personal items secure. The lined main compartment is designed for easy access while the bag sits close to the body.

This combination of layout and design makes the UR3 practical for everyday use, keeping personal items organized and ensuring security while in use.

A project created in Barcelona

Ultimately, the UR3 is a project rooted in proximity, design, and a commitment to rethinking production in a way that is more responsible and connected to the local environment. The collaboration between Urbanauta and Lindenbaum has resulted in a bag that repurposes an existing material into a new product, demonstrating that design can serve as a tool to reduce waste, unlock new possibilities, and build community alongside local designers and creatives.
